Pulse & Perspective

Jackson Township is a close-knit community, and when one of our own goes missing, it weighs heavily on all of us.

Mortimer “Morty” Wortman, a Jackson Township resident and Rutgers University student, has been missing since November 21. Since that time, his family, friends, law enforcement, and members of the community have remained united in the hope that he can be safely located and brought home.

According to information released by authorities, Morty was last known to be in Jackson Township on the evening of November 21. His vehicle was later found in town, prompting an extensive and ongoing search effort. Law enforcement agencies have utilized multiple resources in their efforts, including ground searches, aerial support, and coordination with neighboring jurisdictions.

Morty is described as being approximately 5’10” tall, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was 22 years old at the time he was reported missing.

As a member of the Jackson Township Council, I want to emphasize that this remains an active and ongoing investigation being handled by the Jackson Township Police Department, along with partnering agencies. While certain details cannot be publicly discussed to protect the integrity of the investigation, what can be shared is the continued need for public awareness.

The community’s role is critical. Even the smallest detail — something that may seem insignificant at first — could help investigators piece together important information. Residents are encouraged to remain observant and to report anything that may be relevant, whether it involves sightings, conversations, or unusual circumstances from the time period surrounding Morty’s disappearance.

I also want to acknowledge the compassion and concern shown by so many residents. The outpouring of support reflects the best of Jackson Township. In moments like this, unity matters.

There is still hope. Searches continue. Leads continue to be evaluated. And a reward is being offered for information that directly leads to Morty’s safe location — funded privately, not by taxpayer dollars.

If you have any information, no matter how small it may seem, please contact:

To Morty’s family: our community stands with you. To our residents: please continue to share information responsibly, remain vigilant, and keep Morty in your thoughts.

Hope remains — and Jackson remains committed to bringing one of our own home.
